GM Ch18
by misacchiTrue to his word, the salary was the highest a C-class hunter could earn, and the signing bonus was what you’d expect given to an A-class hunter. The contract was for three years, and most of the terms were written in Minjun’s favor.
There were a few things that caught Minjun’s eye in the pretty chunky contract.
“I’m assisting the guild leader? You’re going into an S-class dungeon? But I’m a C-class?”
Minjun checked the contract about assisting Soohyuk and looked at Seongwon. As an S-class hunter, Soohyuk usually entered S-class and A-class dungeons, which meant that if he had to assist him, he would have to enter the same dungeons.
“Hahaha, how could that be? You won’t be going into S-class dungeons. Well, not exactly, because the law says that B-class is the lower limit for entering S-class dungeons. You will probably only be deployed in A-class dungeons where the raid time is over twenty-two hours and the environment is good. Oh, and of course the guild will provide you with armor. It’s high grade stuff, so you’ll be fine in A-class dungeons as long as you’re not directly involved in battle. And if you feel that your life is in danger, you’re welcome to leave the dungeon at any time. The June Guild prioritizes the safety of our hunters.”
Seongwon smiled confidently at him, and Minjun wondered what kind of defense item he was talking about.
As repeatedly emphasized during the hunter license practical exam, the basic rule was to enter a dungeon of the same level as the hunter. However, if one’s dungeon raid party was well organized and they had good items, it was okay to enter a dungeon with a higher rating. And in the worst case scenario, there was an emergency dungeon escape.
“Yes. If you say it’s dangerous, I’ll escape without delay.”
“Of course. The June Guild will support hunter Kim Minjun to the best of our ability.”
“Oh, before that, I have something to check. You heard correctly from the guild leader, right? My buff skill is only 55%?”
“…Hahaha, it’s not ‘only’ 55%. Officially, the highest number for a buff skill is said to be 22%. 55% is extremely amazing, hunter Minjun.”
“Oh… Right.”
Minjun clicked his tongue as he answered briefly. He made the same mistake he had made in not realizing that spirits had different uses on Earth and in the other world.
After he finished his hunter license practical, he searched up elementalists, but the common knowledge about hunters was still lacking.
Having been a demon hunter in the other world for so long, most of his standards were geared towards that. Buffs were very common in this world, starting at the baseline of buffs that doubled stats. Ten times was possible in rare circumstances, so 55% was no big deal. But that didn’t seem to be the case on Earth. If he thought about it, back in the day, when he was in his prime as an S-class, buff skills were rare.
Suddenly, Minjun understood why Soohyuk had asked him to join the guild. Minjun glanced at him, who was sitting quietly without saying a word. He remembered that Soohyuk had said that he wanted to recruit him because he had a special skill.
If this was the case, it would be really difficult for him to retire.
Minjun flipped through the contract with a sense of foreboding. But he didn’t find what he was looking for, so he asked Seongwon.
“By any chance, is there a clause regarding class changes? I’m just wondering what happens if you get downgraded due to a curse or something.”
“There’s a clause about it. Here it is.”
As a large guild, there were already the provisions Minjun wanted to add. If a hunter’s grade dropped, the guild would actively help them find the cause and fix it. There were also specifics.
When Minjun read the clause that said that if his rating went up, they would rewrite his contract, he realized that this was the key detail. After he became an S-class, the best option was to negotiate a new contract and then semi-retire.
He didn’t know anything else, but he couldn’t give up on retirement.
Just as Minjun skimmed through the contract, thinking everything seemed alright, a word caught his eye.
“You will be providing accommodation?”
“Yes, our guild provides dormitories for singles. It’s right over there. Basically there are two rooms. You can almost think of it as an apartment. There is also a restaurant and a gym, but they are connected to the guild building underground, so you can come and go easily. As I mentioned in advance, it is not required. Still, staying at the dorm is recommended for safety and security. What does hunter Kim Minjun think?”
“It sounds good to me. On the way back earlier, hunter Jung Jinwoo was boasting about it. Apparently, the guild will provide three meals a day, so I’m looking forward to it.”
“Our guild’s cafeteria is famous, and the best part of my day is lunch. Eating good is living good.”
Minjun, who is serious about eating, sympathized with Seongwon’s words. After graduating from high school and working at a packaging company, one of the hardest things he had to deal with was food. The small packaging company was bad in many ways; the work was intense, and the lunch was terrible. His new job after he got out of the military was no different.
In that sense, a good lunch was a very high part of his job satisfaction. It didn’t seem like he was going to be upset about food at the June Guild.
“Do you have a ballpoint pen? I’ll sign it.”
“Oh, that would be great, but you shouldn’t do that now. You need to show the contract to a lawyer and review it for toxic clauses. I’m telling you in advance, but after you sign it, that will be it. It’s not possible to back out because you didn’t know better. You must take responsibility, hunter Kim Minjun.”
“Is there a toxic clause?”
“Absolutely not, but you should still see a lawyer.”
Minjun nodded at Seongwon’s insistence. It was unlikely that the June Guild and Seongwon would commit fraud, it was still right to properly review it.
“I have to go to the National Security Agency tomorrow, can I say I’m a member of the June Guild then?”
“Oh, that’s right, why don’t you come with me to see the lawyer in a little while, it’s a quick review, you can sign it right away and I’ll go to the National Security Agency and register it, and you don’t have to go there tomorrow. The guild’s legal representative can go instead.”
“It’s fine, I can go.”
“You don’t have to go to the trouble of getting a license yourself, that’s what the guild is for. You can rest easy tomorrow, hunter Kim Minjun. And now, this is a confidentiality agreement involving a pair of bound items.”
Setting the contract aside, Seongwon pulled out two new sheets of paper.
“I’ll take it from here. Move out of the way.”
Soohyuk, who had been silent until now, interrupted. As if it had been agreed upon, Seongwon said he understood and left the guild leader’s office.
Minjun looked across at Soohyuk. His arms were relaxed, but his sullen face remained the same.
“As vice guild leader Seongwon said, it’s a confidentiality agreement.”
Minjun’s eyes widened at the sudden formal manner. When he looked up, Soohyuk furrowed his brow tiredly.
“I couldn’t find a way to unbind the item. Sh…”
Minjun realized that Soohyuk was about to curse, but held back. His eyes were sharp and he seemed peeved.
“You can swear.”
“Not to that extent.”
“I apologize for being too harsh last time.”
“Huh?”
Soohyuk looked at him with a questioning look.
“It was a sensitive subject, to put it mildly. I’m… Hm, I think that if a problem arises, it’s better to resolve it quickly, and we’re going to have to do it anyway, so I just didn’t understand why the guild leader was so insistent. Honestly, I still feel that way, but I apologize for pushing it.”
As he searched for tips on how to have sex with a man, he inadvertently learned about the intimate details of couples he didn’t even know. Although it varied from person to person, the common advice was to tread carefully when discussing sex, as it could be a sensitive topic.
That day, he understood why Soohyuk had said he was so fearless. Even though he was older, he hadn’t had any experience, so he was ignorant. As shocked as he was, he didn’t realize that Soohyuk could be too.
When he apologized, Soohyuk made a really weird face. If he had to describe it, it was like he ate something that tasted weird.
“Hah. As long as you know.”
“So do you need more time?”
“I don’t need more time, but I do want to ask you something: Can you do this with just about anyone to solve the problem quickly?”
“The guild leader isn’t just anyone.”
Minjun knew Soohyuk’s name, his face, his job, and his personality roughly. He could never be called just anyone.
If the other person had been a strange person, Minjun would have been a lot more worried. In the worst case scenario, he could have been imprisoned and even raped. Consent through threats that put one’s life as collateral is also consent. But if it was Soohyuk, who said he couldn’t do it with a twenty-year-old and tried for days to find another way, it was fine.
“Then?”
“What?”
“If I’m not just anyone, then what am I? Am I your type or something?”
“I don’t really have a type, but… I suppose when you’re as handsome as our guild leader, you surpass most people’s tastes.”
Soohyuk was speechless for a moment. He’d been called handsome countless times in his life, but hearing Minjun’s compliments with an impassive face made him feel strange. Or, more accurately, it felt a little good.
