FLBE Chapter 9 Part 10
by SYLPH“Come here. I’ve got all the clothes and things you might need. If you need anything else, just let me know.”
He led her around, practically forcing her to explore the room. Although it wasn’t as grand as the palace, it was clear that a lot of thought had gone into its preparation. His eyes sparkled as if he was seeking praise. If he had a tail, it would be wagging enthusiastically.
However, what came out of her mouth was not praise, but suspicion.
“It looks like you were certain I would come and prepared this room?”
“Yes.”
Of course, he is arrogant and shameless. Are all Top-righteous Alphas like this?
Then she remembered Roan and realized that wasn’t entirely true.
“What if I had said I wouldn’t come?”
“You didn’t really want to live a prison life, did you?”
“I was planning to live at the temple.”
“If you had decided to go to the temple, the Emperor would have killed Roan.”
“What do you mean?”
Lance frowned as her body stiffened in shock.
“Even I’m feeling this way, so it’s amazing that the emperor didn’t lose his mind. I never thought there would come a day when I would fully understand that bast@rd’s feelings.”
“What do you mean?”
“Let me ask you one thing.”
“What is it…?”
Lance narrowed his eyes and stared intensely into hers as he asked,
“Do you like Roan?”
“…?”
“Do you like him as a man?”
“No! Roan is just… like a mentor to me. I like him as a person, but…”
“So, you don’t like him as a man? Is that really it?”
Suddenly, Roan’s confession came to mind. Perhaps because of that, she felt wrong to give a definitive ‘no.’
But she couldn’t lie either. She knew Roan’s affection for her stemmed from her being an Omega, and she didn’t want to foolishly harbor other feelings.
Liena completely shut the door to her heart, ensuring she wouldn’t fall into a delusion.
“Yes, that’s all.”
At her firm response, the corners of Lance’s mouth twitched. Unlike before, he smiled as he plopped down on the sofa.
“The emperor and the temple are merely allies out of necessity. And the emperor has an immense sense of possessiveness. Do you really think he would leave Roan alone if he knew you, whom he considers his own, were going to Roan? That bast@rd would cling to Roan even if it meant losing half of this empire.”
L-Lose what…?
Liena’s mouth fell open, hearing something so terrifying it was hard to imagine. But Lance wasn’t finished.
“Earlier, you asked why I approached you, right?”
“…”
“Because you’re special.”
“Special? How?”
“You’re different from the other Saintesses. That’s why the Emperor is more obsessed with you.”
“…?”
“And that’s why that prudish virg*n forgot his duty and embraced you.”
She couldn’t understand what he was saying. Liena staggered and sat down facing Lance.
“Roan holding you was a shock for me too. I didn’t expect that devout guy to desire a Saintess in front of the god he serves.”
“Th-that’s because Roan was in heat…”
“Do you think this was his first heat? He’s gone through it hundreds of times. He’s always handled it on his own. But this time, he specifically chose to embrace you. Why do you think that is?”
“Speak in a way I can understand!”
“It means you’re that special.”
“…”
What the hell is so special?
Lance’s words were becoming more and more incomprehensible.
“Don’t you get it yet? Roan, who knew nothing but his god, developed feelings for you. This realization also triggered the Emperor to recognize his own feelings for you. Though he’ll never admit it.”
Lance deliberately didn’t reveal that she was a dominant Omega. Instead, he subtly planned to use their emotions to make sure she couldn’t go back to them.
“…Different feelings?”
Lance’s words rattled the tightly locked door of her heart, and Liena shook her head.
“It’s not like that. You’re mistaken.”
Liena dismissed their feelings as nothing more than the lust of beasts desiring only the body of an Omega as if hypnotizing herself.
Well, it was the truth.
Yet, Roan’s sincere confession and Rhetrik’s hurt look kept unsettling her mind.
Determined not to let her weak heart fall into another delusion, she shook her head vigorously, locking her emotions tightly. If it were real, he wouldn’t have said such things. No matter how angry, is it normal to talk about cutting off the head of the woman you love?
Recalling Rhetrik’s harsh words, Liena clicked her tongue.
Lance, as if not wanting to give her a moment to think of something else, suddenly leaned in and said.
“I’m not done talking yet. There’s one more absurd thing left.”
“What is it?”
“That I’m involved in it too.”
“…!”
“I don’t want to lose you to those bast@rds either. Do you know what that means?”
“What… does it mean?”
Liena gulped at his enigmatic smile.
“It means there could be a war that might bring the end of this world because of you.”
“What did you say?”
“What do you think will happen if the three of us clash? The strongest in this world—one wielding a sword with aura, one possessing powerful magic, and one granted divine powers by the gods—going head-to-head.”
What did I just hear…?
“So if you don’t want to see that, stay hidden by my side. Until they find you, those bast@rds won’t be able to do anything.”
It was only then that Liena realized something was terribly wrong. She put her hand on her forehead and lowered her head.
Whatever the reason, it was clear that all three men wanted her. But she didn’t feel happy at all. It just felt like being a target for madmen. An Omega targeted by top Alphas, nothing more and nothing less.
Is that what you call special? Who said I wanted to be special?
First, they pressed upon her the duty to save people and protect them as the Saintess, and now they’ve turned her into a cancerous presence threatening their lives.
This crazy novel!
Liena bit her lip hard and muttered a curse under her breath, not even sure who it was directed at.
After dropping a bombshell statement like throwing a toy, Lance nonchalantly talked about the upcoming schedule.
“Take a rest today, and if there’s somewhere you want to go starting tomorrow, let me know. I made a promise, so I have to keep it.”
“…….”
“Want to visit your friends first?”
“…….Let’s talk about it tomorrow. I just want to rest today.”
“Are you telling me to leave?”
Liena replied with a sullen face to his brazen question.
“Yes.”
“So cold-hearted. Fine, get some rest. I’ll bring you some food later.”
“…….Okay.”
Fortunately, he left without further protest. Alone, Liena sprawled out on the sofa and mulled over what Lance had said.
Even though she knew it wasn’t true, her heart’s defenses creaked again. Maybe, just maybe, they really did… It started because I was an Omega, but later, couldn’t there be other feelings involved?
Then, suddenly, a hollow laugh escaped her lips.
“If it’s real, so what? What am I supposed to do?”
Living with all three of them was out of the question, and choosing one of them made even less sense. No matter what, the outcome with them could never lead to happiness.
“If I weren’t an Omega, they wouldn’t have even glanced at me. That’s an unchangeable truth.”
Alpha and Omega. An inseparable bond.
Even if they genuinely came to love her, she wouldn’t be able to believe it. Their relationship wouldn’t have started without that bond.
Liena once again convinced herself that the only reason they were interested in her was because she was an Omega.
