FLBE Chapter 5 Part 2
by SYLPH“I heard you lived in a remote mountain village. How do you know about high-tier alphas?”
“That, that is…”
Liena was momentarily lost for words, fearing she had made a mistake.
She realized that in this world, nobody ever talked about alphas and omegas as if they were completely oblivious. It was as if the common people were unaware of these terms.
Did they really not know? Was information about alphas and omegas exclusive to certain individuals?
Roan seemed to read her curiosity and briefly explained about alphas and omegas in this world.
“Commoners don’t really know about alphas and omegas. Unless someone close to them manifests such traits, it’s a foreign concept to them, mainly because they don’t manifest these traits. And yet, you, who were a commoner, manifested as an omega. That in itself was quite extraordinary. I couldn’t believe it when I heard it.”
Liena tried to hide her surprise, but her heart raced, fearing that Roan might discover her true identity. As a Pope serving the god and a high-tier alpha, he seemed capable of seeing right through a person’s soul.
“If it weren’t for the mark on your chest, I wouldn’t have believed it. Even when the Emperor told me he had seen it, I didn’t plan to believe it until I saw it with my own eyes.”
At Roan’s words, Liena quickly covered her br*asts. Had he seen it already? Although she felt surprised at first, she soon resigned to the fact. After all, she had been wearing rather revealing clothes lately that even her br*asts were half-exposed, so it wouldn’t be strange if he had seen it.
But surely, he wouldn’t go as far as the Emperor and rip her clothes to confirm it, right?
“However, your pheromones alone were enough to convince me. Your pheromones are the sweetest and most unique I’ve ever encountered among the omegas who have manifested as Saintess. Even I, as the Pope, was overwhelmed by them.”
“…!”
The issue wasn’t the mark. She was still emitting those wretched pheromones. The thought of Rhetrik being intoxicated by her pheromones even in the vast spaces sent chills down her spine.
Could this confined space be filled with my pheromones? Growing more anxious, Liena hunched over, cautiously observing Roan’s expressions.
For a moment, Roan’s gaze turned icy. Liena, catching the cold glint in his grey eyes, involuntarily swallowed, her heart pounding and body trembling.
“That’s why, he went looking for you too. Though he’s definitely not that type of person.”
‘He’? Liena’s tension eased at this unexpected remark. It seemed Roan had no particular interest in her pheromones.
Listening to his words, someone came to her mind. Was he talking about Lance? Whether he meant Lance or Rhetrik, she couldn’t ask. Only after her body relaxed did she realize the depth of the conversation she had been engaged in.
Liena remained silent, simply listening to Roan. Speaking out of turn felt like it would only sink her deeper into trouble.
Roan’s sharp gaze softened as he looked at her.
“I’m not sure how a commoner like you knows about high-tier alphas, but it seems there’s a misunderstanding I need to clear up.”
Misunderstanding?
“Saintess, you don’t have to be afraid of me. I am not like the Emperor. I don’t succumb to my urges during the rut and rely on the body of an omega like some primal human.”
“Huh…?”
What did he mean? From what she knew, high-tier alphas invariably needed omegas. Their uncontrollable desires could only be quelled by omegas? But if that’s not true…
Then why did Rhetrik behave the way he did with the deceased Saintess?
“You must have many questions. I’ll explain them in time. Can you see me as you used to, without all this wariness? It hurts me to see you so guarded.”
She looked intently at Roan, feigning a wounded expression. Could she really trust him? What if he suddenly turned on her…
Despite her continued caution, Liena allowed herself to relax slightly. She felt like her head would explode if she remained this tense.
“So, what…. am I going to do at the temple now?”
“We will report to Lord Vertia that a servant of God has returned. Then, we’ll check the color of your mark.”
“Huh?”
Color of my mark?
“Right now, it should just be white. Is that correct?”
“Yes…”
“If you are truly a Saintess, that color will change.”
“And if it doesn’t change, does that mean I’m not a Saintess?”
She wasn’t sure what she hoped for in asking. If she wasn’t a Saintess, could she return to a normal life? But if she wasn’t a Saintess, then what was she? Would she no longer be an omega?
“The mark has already appeared, so you are definitely a Saintess. However, the color it changes to will determine your true nature.”
My nature….? What color could it be?
At Liena tilted her head, Roan added more explanation to help her understand.
“Usually, it turns a clear sky blue, indicating purity and goodness. But sometimes, we see Saintesses with black or red marks.”
“What do those colors mean?”
“Black signifies a lack of saintly qualities, a harboring of dark intentions. Saintesses with black marks have often met tragic ends. They were blinded by greed and committed acts unbefitting a Saintess.”
Ah…. she had always assumed that Saintesses would naturally be virtuous. But it seemed even Saintesses, with their special abilities, had different innate natures. After all, saintesses were human too.
“And what about red…?”
“Hmm, it indicates more of an omega’s qualities than those required of a Saintess’s healing.”
“Qualities of an omega?”
“Yes. It implies a greater interest in lust. These Saintesses used healing as a pretext to seduce and crave alphas.”
Liena’s eyes widened at this revelation, something she had never considered.
“Is that possible? Even though they’re His Majesty’s omega?”
“Ah… The only omega belonging to His Majesty was the former Saintess. Sadly, she passed away early.”
