Chronicles of the Black Snake

When she saw him, her heart plummeted. The moment she saw him, she fell into an irresistible love.  

Can a human be so beautiful? So utterly lovable?

“You have to love me as much as you’re loved because of me. That’s fair, right?”

She didn’t know it was because of an ancient vow. Da-mi had forgotten everything.

“This isn’t even punishment. No. Compared to what you did to me, this is nothing.”  

Da-mi twisted her waist crudely, clinging to his arm. As she panted hot breaths and pleaded, Hyeon easily pinned her feeble resistance. His clouded eyes warped with perverse pleasure as he sank his fangs into her nape again.  

“Why do you only do this to me? You who forgot me, how dare you!”

On a certain day from a precious memory only it remembered.  

“What’s your name?”  

When the girl asked, it felt a flicker of joy.  

Finally, I can tell someone my name. I, too, have a name.  

“Dregs.”  

[T/N : “찌꺼기” translates to “dregs,” or “leftover scraps.” It implies something worthless, cast aside, or unwanted—mirroring how he was rejected at birth for being “sinister” and “ominous.“]

Though its gaze remained blank, its long tail wagged eagerly.  

“…….”  

The girl froze, her face terrified.  

It stared at Da-mi’s trembling form, then impulsively said:  

“Just call me Snake.”  

“Snake” was not its name. If the girl called it Snake, it would be no different from living under another’s identity.  

But a human’s lifespan was a mere century. To it, who had lived eternity, that was but a fleeting moment. If the girl wasn’t afraid, it could temporarily shed its identity and become a snake.  

It decided to become a snake.  

A ordinary snake living among humans, a pet snake cherishing the name its owner gave… If I can stay by your side… Even a century would be enough.

Male Protagonist: Sa Hyeon (Age Unknown)

The sole primordial being. Da-mi calls him “Snake.” Abandoned at birth for being sinister and ominous, he was consumed by madness, tormented and lonely. Everyone feared him. In return, she was adopted, loved, and lived peacefully—but she completely forgot the snake, who had counted down the days to their promise, driving him to darkness. She possesses a kindness that first recognized the loneliness of an ominous being. To the snake, she is the sweetest, most delicious thing he has ever tasted.
