Beatrice and the Two Men

“Please fulfill your duties and obligations without displeasing His Grace.”

Beatrice, the eldest of five siblings in a humble baron family, has spent her life taking care of her younger siblings in place of her parents, who are lost in extravagance and pleasure. She is sold to the Grand Duke of Edelstein for three chests of gold, a man notorious for his alleged madness and penchant for slaughter.

“Hmm, it seems my bride is frightened.”

Clad only in a thin negligee, Beatrice waits for the Grand Duke, praying and praying again. She prays that the rumors about him are just rumors, exaggerated bluster. 

But upon seeing the man before her, she realizes that everything whispered about him is not an exaggeration or a lie, but the complete and utter truth.

“Are you afraid of me, my wife?”

At eighteen, he massacred his own relatives, including his grandfather, and collateral noble families. A madman who commits merciless slaughter. A libertine who prefers alcohol to three meals a day and is nowhere to be seen during daylight hours. This man is now her husband.

“Are you tired?”

She nodded with difficulty, a single tear tracing a path down her cheek.

Then one day, exhausted by the Duke’s torment, Beatrice impulsively runs away from the mansion.

“Do you need help?”

A gentle tone and a kind question. A terrifyingly handsome face, jet-black hair, and blood-red eyes.

“Gasp… Y-Your Grace…?”

She encounters a man who looks exactly like Grand Duke Callisto, but introduces himself not as the Grand Duke, but as Lennox.

“Are you curious about my identity?”
