It was merely about writing the ledgers.

However Tenesia’s face was full of joy, more evident than ever before.

What’s so special about these ledgers?

“Then, may I ask just one thing? The population in the western region has suddenly increased, and I’m wondering where to pull the budget for this…”

“If there’s something you don’t know, ask the butler. He’ll be more detailed than I would.”

    “Got it.”

She replied and immediately turned her head.

Even so,  he didn’t expect her to turn her head right away, so his hand, which had been about to grab the documents, hesitated and hovered in midair.

By the time she spoke again, Tenesia had already started questioning the butler vigorously.

    She seemed genuinely pleased.

Dietrich awkwardly pulled his hand back and crossed his arms. His fingers dug deep into his arms like sharp thorns, causing discomfort.

    Tenesia didn’t neglect the greenhouse.

Every other day, she secretly used spirits to mix the soil evenly. She applied fertilizers evenly, and all that was left was warmth from the sunlight and time.

    “…Good.”

The feeling of the soil beneath her feet was becoming less unpleasant. At this rate, she could plant the seeds soon.

Tenesia wiped the soil from her feet with a handkerchief. Normally, she would have used a rag or something unfit, but the servants had recoiled at the idea and had given her something proper.

Just as she finished tying her shoelaces and was about to get up, a sudden dizziness made her vision spin.

Losing her balance, she collapsed to the ground. Her face hit the cold soil, and it was difficult to regain control of her body. Thankfully, the soft earth helped cushion the impact.

    “Ugh…”

Her fingers felt cold. A biting chill spread throughout her body, as though it were trying to freeze her heart.

She tried to open her eyes but found it difficult. Her dizzy mind kept spinning.

It felt like someone was gripping her and shaking her violently. Tenesia opened and closed her eyes repeatedly, trying to regain some clarity.

After some time, she managed to steady herself and tilt her upper body. When her head finally calmed down, she opened her eyes and realized she was still sitting on the earth. Thankfully, the location was secluded and no one had passed by.

She wiped the dirt off her clothes.

    ‘Maybe I’ve overexerted myself.’

It felt different from when she had a fever. Unlike the heaviness and confusion from the fever, it was as if the warmth had been completely drained from her body, and it was hard to regain it.

Through her trembling fingers, she felt a chilling cold, like touching someone else’s fingers, which sent shivers down her spine.

She recalled how she had often relied on her abilities and used them to the fullest. Tenesia’s delicate body had clearly struggled under the weight of it all.

Using spirits in this state would only have a reverse effect. Tenesia clenched her hands over her chest.

Through her palm, she could feel her erratic heartbeat, slow at times and fast at others, as though it might stop at any moment.

    “…I’m fine.”

She wasn’t at death’s door yet. After taking a few deep breaths, her pulse seemed to slow down slightly.

When her legs stopped trembling, she managed to stand. The time she had agreed on with Arden was fast approaching. She quickly left the greenhouse.

However, contrary to her original plan, Tenesia couldn’t head to Arden’s room. The servants, shocked by her appearance, insisted on escorting her to her own room.

She had tried her best to clean herself, but it seemed that she was still covered in dirt, despite her efforts.

“It’s no good. Next time, you must take me with you.”

“It’s nothing. I was just going to check in, that’s all.”

“Still, you look so unwell, and your complexion doesn’t seem right. We could handle the dirty work for you—really…”

Tenesia, in an effort to soothe the worried servant, ended up sweating bullets. She made a mental note that next time she would clean herself up properly before going, even if it meant using the spirits.

    Tap

    “Phew.”

She had to reassure the concerned servants several times before she could finally leave alone.

Although she appreciated their kind concern, she couldn’t let them find out about her physical condition.

Her wedding had not yet taken place. Until the ceremony was complete and the union was official, the contract could be easily broken at any time.

Until then, she had to keep her condition a secret, even if it meant lying to Dietrich.

    “Is it too late?”

The time for her reading session with Arden was almost over. Though he knew about astrology and world history, he had no idea about the most famous fairy tales in the Carbonnel, which was why she had planned this time with him.

Tenesia straightened her clothes once more. She didn’t want to show any sign of disarray in front of the child.

After confirming that the corridor was empty, Tenesia hurriedly walked towards it. However, when she passed by a particular place, she stopped abruptly as if nailed to the spot.

    “…This place.”

It was a room that had always been tightly closed.

It was also the room she used as study in the past.

Dietrich had shut down all the rooms related to Grace. These were things she had learned as she walked around the castle for the purpose of increasing her physical strength.

Even the bedroom was the same. The door that had been open that night was now locked as though it had never been opened.

Unconsciously, Tenesia took a step back.

Everything felt like a repeat of that night. The door that had been accidentally opened. How she had happened to discover it. And now, facing this situation alone.

    And then, after that…

    “What are you doing there?”

Her ominous premonition turned out to be right.
