Chapter 31. The Northern Grand Duke has become strange

Looking at the numerous flowers and trees lined up at the entrance, she thought that it definitely felt more alive than the plants in the artificial garden. So she nodded her head involuntarily at Leo’s words that there would be a lot to see.

“But, are you friends with His Highness the Crown Prince?”

No matter how much she thought about it, the way Adel called Leo’s name and how he grumbled at him seemed like they were friends. She put her lips to his ear and asked.

Leo nodded calmly to Jaina’s question, then tilted his head to whisper in Jaina’s ear.

“Don’t provoke me here, Jaina. I’m jealous.”

“No, what did I do?”

She just whispered softly in his ear, but Leo said he was jealous. Jaina was very embarrassed.

He just smiled without answering her words, which made it even more dazzling. But that smile had something in it that she decided not to say anything more.

And then, Jaina felt a gaze and turned her head. She felt that someone was definitely looking at them, but no one’s gaze was reaching her.

Jaina tilted her head without realizing it and turned her gaze back to Leo.

She was sipping wine and staring blankly in the midst of the many people who were noisily composing. Soon the emperor’s congratulatory speech began.

Both the emperor and the empress were people who shined like light, just like Adel. Jaina exclaimed in admiration as she looked at their faces while the emperor and the empress were giving their congratulatory speeches.

“Let’s go, Jaina.”

After the emperor and the empress’s congratulatory speeches, the real ball has begun.

Leo, who had no intention of dancing, stood up as soon as he heard the music signaling the start of the ball. He reached out to Jaina.

When Jaina took her hand and stood up, Leo put strength into her hand and started walking toward the door.

There were quite a few nobles around him calling out to Leo or greeting him, but he ignored them all and walked out of the banquet hall.

“Oh, I see you here again.”

As soon as he came out, Lilian, who was standing in the middle of the hallway facing Adel, smiled brightly at Leo.

Leo’s eyes narrowed slightly, but Lilian ignored him and walked toward them with Adel.

“I hope you haven’t forgotten that you have to stay at the palace today.”

Adel seemed to think Leo was already going to leave. He responded with a small laugh to Adel’s words.

“I know. I’m not going back. I just wanted to show my lady the garden.”

“Ah. If there’s a palace garden, the garden is the most beautiful.”

“That’s why I’m going there.”

“Oh, that’s good. His Highness and I were going to go to the garden and have a quiet chat. Since it turned out like this, let’s go together.”

“Yes, Leo. Let’s go together. We have a lot to talk about.”

At the moment when the four of them were talking without any choice, Jaina felt a sense of unease rising up inside her.

“Why? If you have something to say, contact me. You can send me a letter.”

“Why aren’t you coming after such a long time?”

“I don’t have enough time to spend with my lady.”

Leo grabbed Jaina’s hand and started to move his long legs. And at that moment.

Lilian grabbed her arm too.

“I want to talk to the lady too.”

Leo, Adel, and Jaina’s eyes were simultaneously focused on Lilian. Lilian made a gloomy expression and said to Adel.

“Your Highness, you know very well. All the saints who lived in the forest of Elim are dead. Now, the only saints in the empire are me and this saint from the north. I want to talk to her.”

Adel turned his head and looked at Jaina.

“What do you think? Lilian wants to talk to you.”

“…Uh… I…….”

Jaina glanced at Leo’s expression and then looked at Lilian.

She was looking at Jaina as if pleading.

Her heart broke at that gaze.

In fact, she was the original heroine and the one who caused all the saints in the forest of Elim to die. But she nodded her head thinking that it wouldn’t be bad if she became close with her.

“Yes, I also want to talk to the saint.”

 For a moment, Leo’s eyebrows furrowed, but Jaina didn’t see his expression because she was smiling at Lilian. 

Jaina, who had a separate conversation with Lilian, told her, who asked how she had come to the North. She said everything that had happened without much suspicion. 

Lilian listened to Jaina’s words, both surprised and sorry. 

“Oh, so that’s why you came to the North.” 

Lilian nodded slowly and muttered as she looked at Jaina. 

“Then the remaining saints…” 

Lilian asked cautiously, trailing off, and for a moment, she began to worry about Liez. But soon she shook her head and answered. 

“I don’t know either.” 

And the discomfort quickly disappeared because Lilian immediately continued with a different story. 

“But it’s really strange. The Grand Duke is rumored to be a eunuch, so I didn’t even think about receiving the power from him.” 

 “Oh, that’s right.”

Jaina nodded.

She knew the original story and he was the only royal who didn’t fall for Lilian. So she went to see him, desperately trying to find a way out.

“And on top of that, you’re receiving powers. I think you’re truly amazing in many ways.”

Jaina felt a strange feeling for a moment at the nuance of her words, but she smiled awkwardly at Lilian’s gaze filled with amazement.
