    Chapter Index

She felt unusually light and in a good mood as if her body was brimming with vitality, almost floating. It had been a while since she felt this way.

    “What’s happening… even after all night…!”

Then, suddenly remembering what she had momentarily forgotten, she sprang up, eyes wide, and swiftly turned her head.

    “Good heavens!”

She thought she had seen the dawn…!

Looking out the window, the world had once again turned to night. It was impossible to tell how time had passed. She was sure it had been night when she returned from the temple and woke up. And then she saw the sun after Rhetrik arrived.

But why was it night again now? No, it seemed dim, as if the sun was about to rise soon.

“This is crazy, totally crazy… I’ve really gone mad!”

She flipped the blanket over her head and kicked around wildly. How could such a thing happen? Both that man and she must be mad.

Not even wild animals spend a whole day together like this. No matter how she thought about it, it was clear madness.

After thrashing about under the blanket for a while, Liena suddenly paused, struck by a thought.

“But why do I feel so light? I should be groaning until tomorrow to be normal.”

Even after swinging her arms around and jumping up and down, her body felt not sore but as light as if she could fly. It was nice to feel physically well, but something was off. Could there have been something in the holy water she drank at the temple that made her feel so light?

Then, she suddenly remembered the mark.

    “Could it be!”

She vaguely recalled Rhetrik mentioning something about a white light. But thinking about what she and Rhetrik did, she had a bad feeling that it should have turned red. Liena nervously pulled up her clothes to check her chest.

“What…? It’s still white? Why didn’t it turn to any other color?”

Suddenly, she was scared. It was a relief not to have red or black, but not having any color at all was perplexing. And it wasn’t as if she could go to the temple at this early hour to find out.

Stepping down from the bed, Liena chewed on her fingernails and paced back and forth.

The previous Saintess had all three colors, and now her mark had come to her. But it had no color at all? Was it because she wasn’t a Saintess from the temple? Or possibly!

“Because I’m not from this world?”

Remembering after quite some time that she wasn’t from this world, Liena bit her nails more anxiously. In a world where the mark of gods was recognized and magicians existed, it seemed likely that something could see right through her soul.

Was she really going to die then…?

Deciding to visit the temple once the morning sun rose, Liena walked towards the balcony. Opening the window wide, a cool breeze poured in. Although the dawn air was a bit chilly, her surprisingly light body found even the breeze pleasant.

However, despite her light body, her heart felt heavily burdened.

    * * *

Since some point, it had become routine for Rhetrik to dine in Liena’s room. Contrary to their initial encounters, he turned out to be a man who enjoyed his food heartily. Given his large stature, his appetite was substantial. Liena glanced at the man before her with newfound curiosity, carefully placing pieces of food into her mouth.

“You seem to have something to say again.”

    A Psychic?

Throughout the meal, the man, who had focused solely on his food, caught her brief glance and discerned her thoughts. Liena marveled at his intuition, rinsing her mouth with water. Then, she cautiously broached the subject.

    “I…”

“Whatever it is, let’s finish eating first. I don’t want to go around the table again without finishing my meal, like last time.”

    “…Yes.”

His grudges were truly boundless. Why bring up an incident from a few days ago? Nonetheless, since he had accommodated her wishes that day, she didn’t feel inclined to argue. Deciding to wait until after the meal to talk, Liena kept quiet to let him concentrate on eating.

She picked up her fork again and began to clear the food on her plate. Perhaps because she felt physically better, the food tasted especially good today. It seemed like the first time she had completely cleared her plate since arriving here.

“You’re eating well. After taking all my energy last night, it seems your appetite has returned.”

    “!”

Her hand, which had been moving continuously, paused abruptly at his teasing comment. She had wondered why he hadn’t brought it up, but it seemed inevitable.

“Now that it’s been mentioned, what exactly happened at the temple?”

At his question, Liena put down her utensils and rinsed her mouth again. She felt she should respond somehow, but she didn’t have an answer. After all, how could she respond without knowing anything herself? She pondered over what to say.

Then, he too put down his utensils and crossed his legs, indicating that the meal was over. Seeing an opportunity as he had initiated the conversation, Liena was about to speak when he suddenly posed another question.

    “Do you still not understand?”

    “Understand… what…?”

    “Pheromones.”

    “Huh…?”

“Do you not sense the scent emanating from your body?”

    Pheromones?

Liena lifted her arm to her nose, sniffing her own scent. However, no matter how much she sniffed, she could only detect the fragrance oil Emma had applied in the morning, nothing more.

    “Is it still strong…?”

“Not just strong. It’s become denser and more intense. I couldn’t even look at you while eating because of it.”

    “Ah…”

Liena, unaware of her own condition, couldn’t fully grasp what Rhetrik was saying. She simply thought he was chiding her for leaking pheromones as usual.

“Tell me exactly what happened at the temple.”

Liena looked into the void as she recalled that day.
