DMYC Chapter 20
by Geli Cake2
A year is undoubtedly a short time, but sometimes it can also feel incredibly long. Arriving at work on time, Dane couldn’t help but let out a scoff at the sight of Grayson flirting with yet another female staff member in front of him.
He had already witnessed this same scene countless times. So much so that he wondered if he was stuck in a time loop.
But of course, that was impossible. The most obvious proof was that the woman was different every time. Once again, Dane and his colleagues listlessly watched as another woman clung to Grayson. Finally, DeAndre, unable to bear it any longer, exploded.
“I can’t stand this anymore.”
The other men gathered around, checking their personal equipment, looked up in surprise as DeAndre stood up abruptly, his breathing heavy. DeAndre pointed dramatically and exclaimed,
“Are you all okay with this? Are you just going to sit here and watch this every single day?”
In the direction DeAndre pointed, Grayson Miller was flirting with a new female staff member.
The enormous Grayson Miller stood with one hand in his pocket, a relaxed smile on his face, whispering something in her ear. The female staff member in front of him, flipped her long hair and tilted her head slightly, her eyes sparkling with a bright smile as she focused on his words.
A subtle shrug of her shoulders conveyed a natural intimacy. She giggled shyly, smoothing down her arm or twirling her hair with her fingers, showing her interest.
The air between them flowed as naturally as if they were long-time acquaintances. Everyone, having turned to look, shifted their gazes back to DeAndre. Ezra looked at him, arms spread wide, as if asking, What are you going to do about it?
“That bastard is messing with our team! Are we just going to let him get away with this? Are we just going to sit here and do nothing?!”
The reaction was still lukewarm. The men blinked blankly, then one by one, they reluctantly spoke up.
“So, what do you suggest we do…? What exactly can we do?”
“Are you saying we should grab Miller and beat him up?”
“I’m all for beating up Miller, but it’s not right to beat him up just because he’s popular with women, is it? They don’t want to be with us, so what can we do…?”
“I went on a date with Ally last week. Anyone can do it if they try.”
At someone’s sudden confession, everyone’s attention immediately shifted toward him. The person who spoke wore a smug smile on his lips. He stroked his chin with one hand as if feigning nonchalance, and a subtle arrogance could be seen in his slightly raised eyebrow.
“Ooh, not bad.”
“You dog! When did you pull off such a sneaky move?”
As applause and cheers mixed with playful jeers filled the air, he puffed out his chest, feeling even more confident.
“See? Not all women are obsessed with Miller. I’m going on another date with her on my next day off. I’ve already picked out a nice restaurant.”
“Buy her flowers when you go on a date. I always give roses.”
At Wilkins’ advice, the man nodded and replied,
“When I told the florist it was for a date, they made a beautiful arrangement. Last time on our date, Ally wore a green dress, and let me tell you, she looked sexy as hell.”
The men responded with an enthusiastic “Ooooh!” and cheered him on, but to DeAndre’s eyes, they were nothing but pathetic.
“Idiots!”
He yelled and suddenly turned around and stormed off. His startled colleagues watched his retreating back and hurriedly scrambled to their feet.
Was he really going to fight Miller? Should they stop him? Or was he just going to the bathroom?
As different thoughts raced through their minds, he unexpectedly veered off in a completely different direction.
“Huh?”
Wilkins let out a bewildered sound. Everyone watched in collective confusion as DeAndre came to a sudden halt—then, out of nowhere, shouted at the top of his lungs.
“What the hell is this? Are you all serious right now? How could you betray us like this?!”
The female staff members, who were gathered together, checking their personal equipment, all turned to look at him at once. They looked puzzled by his sudden outburst. While it was somewhat impressive that he had the guts to barge into their space and shout like that, their reaction remained cold.
“Betrayal? What are you talking about? Explain yourself clearly.”
Priscilla, the leader of Team B, stood up and asked. Seeing her colleagues also stand up one by one, their expressions turning hostile, DeAndre faltered and instinctively stepped back. But when he turned his head, he caught sight of his male colleagues watching him.
Unable to back down because of his pride, he stood his ground, puffing out his chest and feigning composure.
“I asked you out on a date three times, and you rejected me every single time! And it’s not just me, you rejected all of us! How can you treat someone you’ve worked with for years, so coldly, and then fall for a guy you’ve known for less than a week? You’re all traitors! Traitors!”
However, the women’s reactions to DeAndre’s impassioned outburst were cynical.
“So…”
Valentina, who had been standing in the back, stepped forward and spoke.
“You’re asking why we’ll sleep with Grayson Miller but not with you? Isn’t that it? Is that what all of you are thinking?”
DeAndre flinched at Valentina’s blunt question, the woman he usually admired. The men standing behind him, also startled by her words, quickly shook their heads at her questioning gaze.
“No, it’s not like that.”
“We were just curious, that’s all. Just, you know, wondering.”
“Hey, I’m not even curious. There must be a reason. DeAndre, what are you doing? Just come back already.”
Ezra gestured urgently, but DeAndre stubbornly stood his ground, waiting for an explanation.
You’re only making yourself look more pathetic!
The men watching from behind all thought the same thing and felt sorry for him, but they didn’t intervene. The women on the other hand, let out a scoff at the men’s lukewarm attitude, as if they were secretly curious about what answer would come next so they’re not invested enough to actively drag DeAndre away.
“He’s handsome, and he has good manners.”
“That’s it?”
DeAndre asked expectantly at Valentina’s words, and this time, Liz spoke,
“Grayson is actually very sweet and kind. And he’s easy to talk to. It was the first time a man truly understood what I was saying.”
“What?”
At those words, DeAndre, along with the men watching from behind, was stunned.
What did she mean?
As they stood there, bewildered, another woman spoke,
“It felt like he could read my mind. He just naturally picked up on what I wanted and what I wanted to hear. He approached me without being pushy, and I could feel that he was being sincere. He’s not just outwardly gentlemanly—his way of considering others is genuinely thoughtful.”
“Right, isn’t it amazing? And the way he listens to everything I say… It made me fall for him in that moment.”
The women who had dated Grayson nodded in agreement. But DeAndre still couldn’t make sense of their words.
“Extreme Alphas are psychopaths! And yet you’re saying he empathized with you? That’s ridiculous! You must be mistaken!”
Despite DeAndre’s protests, the women’s reactions remained indifferent. Their expressions seemed to say that no matter how much he complained, it wouldn’t change anything.
“I wanted to sleep with an Extreme Alpha. It’s a special experience, isn’t it?”
As if deciding that reasoning with him was pointless, they started listing other reasons. Liz’s words sparked another round of agreement.
“Exactly, and it was the first time I’d ever met an Extreme Alpha. On top of that, sex with one? Of course, I was curious.”
Seeing them all nod, DeAndre was left speechless, his mouth opening and closing in disbelief. Valentina snickered and looked at DeAndre.
“Still don’t get it? Women can be just as promiscuous as men if there’s no risk of pregnancy.”
“Extreme Alphas can control fertilization. How amazing is that? We can have mind-blowing sex without worrying about getting pregnant.”
“Now I finally understand why men are so crazy about sex. They can enjoy it freely without the risk of pregnancy.”
“If men were the ones getting pregnant instead of women, you’d all be forced to be just as cautious.”
