CMYEHDS Episode 2
by darkaedy
A small bell jingled as Ki Seojeong pulled open the glass door. He entered the cafe, his gaze sweeping the surroundings before settling on a destination.
“Long time no see.”
Shin Dabin looked up at the voice, so soft it was almost ticklish. Her long hair cascaded over her shoulders. Ki Seojeong met her gaze and, as usual, the corners of his lips curved upward.
After a brief greeting, Ki Seojeong sat opposite Dabin. She remained silent, intently observing his face.
“You’re staring a little intensely.”
“Ki Seojeong, have you lost weight?”
That was Dabin’s first remark after eight years. While it was a surprising opening, Seojeong merely chuckled. It was one of the most frequent comments he’d received lately, from colleagues and acquaintances alike.
Dabin scrutinized his sharper jawline and prominent T-zone, the result of weight loss, her expression serious.
“You don’t look like this when we were dating.”
“Oh dear. Shin Dabin said the only thing she looks at is my face.”
“Hey, watch your words. When did I ever say that?”
Ki Seojeong shrugged nonchalantly, but Dabin wasn’t one to let that slide.
“To be precise, I said I only look at your ‘face and body.”
“….”
“And you still look good. I’m just a little surprised by the change in your vibe.”
The boyish charm that had lingered had vanished, replaced by the countenance of a fully grown man. His already handsome features had matured, a welcome sight for Dabin.
“But let’s tone down the weightlifting a bit.”
“When I first saw your chest and shoulders…” Dabin continued. Seojeong burst into laughter, then suddenly remembered something, letting out an “Ah.”
“I brought this for you, actually.”
“Oh? What is it?”
Dabin’s eyes fell on Seojeong’s hand. A rather thick envelope was visible between his long fingers. Seeing Dabin’s puzzled expression, Seojeong blinked slowly.
“Wedding gift money.”
“Wedding gift money?”
Sejeong nodded at her parroting his words. After watching his affirmative nod, Dabin burst into laughter.
“Ah, Ki Seojeong, you’re still so funny.”
“I thought you had some good news to share, but I guess not?”
Seojeong’s lips also curved into a smile, mirroring the infectious laughter in her voice.
Ki Seojeong, please make some time.
Oh, by the way, this is Shin Dabin.
A message from his ex-girlfriend eight years after their breakup. Shin Dabin was the one who had helped him realize his sexual orientation, and one of the few people who knew.
So, it couldn’t be a reunion. What could possibly make him contact his former lover out of the blue? As he pondered the text message, a forgotten memory surfaced.
‘I’m sorry, Dabin.’
‘It’s okay, you didn’t do it on purpose. Well, thanks to you, I got the title of Ki Seojeong’s girlfriend, which no one else has, so it’s a win-win.’
‘If you really feel sorry, come to my wedding as a guest. Start saving up for a generous wedding gift.’
He wasn’t naive enough to take Dabin’s words literally. He knew it was just to ease his guilt, but that was all that came to mind.
“You still remember what you said back then?”
“I couldn’t forget, it was a promise.”
Still the same. Shin Dabin thought that as she listened to his smooth reply.
A person kind and gentle to everyone, for no reason.
Yes, Ki Seojeong was a man of many sins. Like many women, Shin Dabin had given him her heart. Even though he hadn’t reciprocated… anyway.
“I really want that money envelope but unfortunately that’s not the news.”
Shin Dabin gazed at the envelope, her eyebrows arched playfully. Seojeong pushed his coffee cup aside and leaned closer to the table.
“Then what is it?”
“Hey, don’t give me that look. Who are you trying to charm now?”
Shin Dabin glared at Ki Seojeong’s handsome face.
“Actually, you almost gave me wedding gift money.”
“Almost?”
Shin Dabin began her story. Ki Seojeong’s brow furrowed slightly at the past tense.
“Yeah. But he cheated, so it’s off.”
Ki Seojeong’s face immediately turned worried as he looked at Shin Dabin. Just from that look, she could picture the barrage of text messages he’d receive. Dabin suppressed the rising corners of her mouth, sighing.
“That’s why I called you. I want revenge on that jerk.”
“Revenge?”
“Am I still sorry to you?”
Ki Seojeong slowly nodded. Still burdened with guilt, he wanted to help Shin Dabin as much as he could.
As if reading his mind, Shin Dabin finally relaxed her lips, her mouth curving into a wide smile. After a long introduction, she finally got to the point.
“So, let’s go somewhere with me.”

The sound of a door lock being turned sounded, and the firmly shut front door opened. Ki Seojeong appeared, bathed in blinding light.
“Excuse me.”
His pleasant baritone voice echoed in the entryway, but there was no reply. Looking down, he saw a collection of slippers neatly arranged in a corner.
Seojeong chose the slippers on the far left and put them on, then began to walk. Following the long hallway with his steady gait, he soon arrived at a spacious living room.
The space was eerily silent. He seemed to be the first guest to arrive.
Seojeong surveyed his surroundings. Everything was unfamiliar. But since he’d decided to appear, he had to stay for four weeks. He needed to get used to it quickly.
While looking around, his eyes fell on a pink piece of paper on the living room table. He could make out the words, “X House Rules.”
Beep-
A door lock sound interrupted Seojeong as he was about to approach the table. He turned towards the sound, and a second guest appeared.
The woman’s eyes widened in surprise at the sight of Ki Seojeong. She hadn’t expected anyone to be there already. Seojeong spoke first, watching her stand motionless.
“Hello.”
“Ah, ah! Yes, yes! Hello!”
The woman finally nodded, as if Seojeong had just dispelled a spell on her. He chuckled softly.
“I was just about to check that, so we can look together.”
Seojeong gestured towards the table. The woman also spotted the pink paper and replied cheerfully.
“Okay.”
After a brief introduction, the two sat on the long sofa. Minha picked up the pink paper first. Seojeong examined it and spoke.
“There’s a QR code.”
“Oh, I guess you scan this with the ‘My Ex, Please Return’ application.”
“Right!” Seeing Minha’s eyes sparkle as if she’d made a great discovery, Seojeong nodded in agreement.
“Then I’ll scan it.”
Minha took out her phone, scanned the QR code, and soon the house rules appeared on the screen against a pink background. Minha gasped and waved her hand towards Seojeong.
“Seojeong-ssi, the rules are up! Let’s look together on my phone!”
“Shall we?” Seojeong scanned the words on the small screen, responding to Minha’s excitement.
X House Rules
Welcome to all residents of X House.
Here are the rules to be followed in X House for four weeks.
– All residents may not arbitrarily reveal their X to other residents.
– All information except names may not be arbitrarily revealed.
– No dating is allowed during the four-week stay.
– All acts of affection except confessions are permitted.
– At least one meal a day must be shared with one or more residents.
Despite the effort put into it, there was nothing particularly new in the rules. Seo Minha seemed to have the same thought. Ki Seojeong raised the corners of his lips, breaking the silence.
“It looks like we’ll have to take turns preparing meals.”
“Right. Seojeong-ssi, can you cook?”
“I can.” But I can’t guarantee the taste. Ki Seojeong’s palate was as unrefined as his personality. Having grown up in an orphanage, he ate anything as long as it wasn’t spoiled. His dull sense of taste had caused Cha Yoon, his former roommate, much suffering.
“Hyung, never cook again.'”
On the day Ki Seojeong first cooked dinner, Cha Yoon issued a cooking ban. For the five years they lived together, cooking naturally became Cha Yoon’s responsibility.
“Oh no, I can’t cook either! What do we do?”
Ki Seojeong, lost in thought, finally snapped back to reality at Minha’s voice. He smiled, as it was his habit.
“Let’s just help those who can cook.”
As he talked with Seo Minha, the other residents arrived one by one. The once empty living room was now bustling with people.
Five other cast members had already arrived, excluding him, but Shin Dabin was not among them. He wondered if she might not be moving in on the same day.
Then, who should he chat with? He idly participated in the conversation, thinking such pointless thoughts.
“What’s your name?”
“Ah, I’m Song Joo-ah.”
That’s when he realized something was wrong.
Song Joo-ah was the seventh resident. A familiar face and name. It was only natural that he couldn’t forget her. Song Joo-ah was an old friend of Cha Yoon’s, someone who knew about their relationship.
What’s your MBTI? I wonder. The best one? Ah, Joo-ah-ssi, you’re so funny. Light questions were exchanged, but only Ki Seojeong was serious.
Even six months after their breakup, memories of Cha Yoon still frequently surfaced, making his heart ache. And now he had to spend a month with someone connected to Cha Yoon. Ki Seojeong swallowed a rising sigh.
He looked up and saw Song Joo-ah ooking at him.
“You remember me, right?”
She didn’t say it, but her eyes seemed to convey the message. Before he could react, Seo Minha’s voice cut through the silence.
“Ah, it seems one more person is coming!”
At that, Joo-ah’s gaze shifted from Ki Seo-jeong to the entrance. Just as he was feeling relieved, the sound of footsteps approaching the living room could be heard as the front door closed. The rhythm of the footsteps was neither too fast nor too slow, but at a comfortable pace that somehow felt familiar.
Ki Seo-jeong’s senses heightened.
Before long, the owner of the footsteps revealed himself.
Calmly arranged, well-groomed black hair, a smoothly defined nose that seemed painted, and full lips positioned below.
It was a face he knew all too well.
As the man reached the top of the stairs, gasps of admiration echoed from various corners, but Ki Seo-jeong could not make a sound.
In that moment, his eyes met the man’s. The man, who had maintained a blank expression, smiled with his eyes as if he had been waiting.
“Hello.”
Finally, the last guest had arrived.
It was Cha Yoon.
