FLBE Chapter 4 Part 5
by SYLPHIndeed, Emma was just a maid; it was unreasonable to expect her to know the minute details of the emperor’s life. Liena wanted to ask about last night’s incident, yet she had a feeling that Emma might not reveal it even if she knew. If Emma had known or intended to tell her, she wouldn’t have missed the intention behind the question just now.
“Saintess?”
“Yes?”
“How about taking a walk? The sunlight is very pleasant today.”
“Is it okay to go out?”
“Of course. His Majesty has allowed you to go anywhere within the imperial palace.”
“Then, I want to go outside.”
Feeling like a bird trapped in a cage, albeit a rather spacious one, Liena decided it would be better to go out and feel the breeze, rather than staying cooped up. She put on a simple dress that Emma had prepared and went outside.
As Emma said, the imperial palace’s garden was filled with pleasant sunlight. Her complicated heart felt significantly lighter. Looking at the blue sky, she was suddenly reminded of the days when she went on a picnic with her friends.
It was delightful. The thought of her friends, who always popped up to meet her whenever they found time, tugged at a corner of her heart.
* * *
Rhetrik, who was sitting on a horse as black as his eyes with a ridiculously large sword strapped to his back, was gazing at the vast sky.
A sky so blue it was spotless of clouds.
However, Rhetrik’s gaze on the sky was icy cold. His aura was threatening as if he was ready to bisect the sky with that gigantic sword.
Looking at Rhetrik, fully armed as if he were about to wipe another country off the map, his adviser Theor was restless. He feared that if this continued, there would only be the empire left in this world. The good news was that today, someone who could stop him was present.
“You cannot find him this way.”
“Humph, the Pope isn’t any better.”
“What can the Pope do when the emperor also can’t do anything?”
Listening to Roan’s grumbling, Theor, standing behind, felt even more restless. Pope Roan Letham, a man with a sacred aura and strong divine power. Although Rhetrik was in a higher position, Roan was a man who served the gods and held a mysterious power that reached the heavens.
If these two men fought with all their might, probably half of the empire would be devastated. Of course, Theor had no doubt that his master would win, yet the aftermath could be catastrophic. He hoped and prayed again and again that the two would get along well.
Fortunately, they had formed an alliance over the new Saintess, but it was a superficial relationship that could break at any moment. Ever since the new Saintess appeared, Rhetrik had become strangely sensitive. Theor was deathly afraid he would turn even the Pope into an enemy.
Maybe today, he’d go to the temple and pray. Please let those two brutish men get along. That was how seriously he felt the current situation was dangerous.
“Put a barrier all over the palace so the bastard can’t sneak in anymore.”
“Any barriers set in the palace won’t mean anything to Lance.”
“So divine power is really more useless than a lowly wizard.”
“I suggest you be careful with your words.”
“Am I wrong? If divine power can’t even stop a mere rat, it might be faster to cut him with my sword.”
“Did your great swordsmanship manage to cut him yesterday? I don’t think the one who lost him right in front of his eyes should say that. If Lance had decided to take the Saintess with him, she would have been stolen away.”
At Roan’s words, the look in Rhetrik’s eyes turned dangerously sharper. A vile rat who had dared to sneak into his house had vanished in the sky all the while brazenly laughing.
Although he seemed calm on the surface, the cold glint in Rhetrik’s eyes and the thick veins protruding from the back of his hand that grasped the reins showed just how angry he was. Despite knowing this, Roan kept needling him.
“No matter how secure the palace is, he will come in and out as he pleases. Of course, he’ll also come in and out of the Saintess’s room.”
“…….”
“So, if you want to protect the Saintess, keep her at the temple like before. No matter who he is, he cannot enter the temple without my permission.”
“How strange.”
“What is?”
The two men sized each other up, Rhetrik cloaked entirely in black atop his black horse, and Roan clothed in pure white atop his white horse. Black and white. The diametrically opposed energies of the two men clashed mid-air. Theor, standing behind, retreated fearfully, the atmosphere was unusually tense.
“It seems you also have a strong interest in the Saintess.”
“She’s the Saintess, a servant of the temple.”
“Is that all there is to it?”
“Oh, are you referring to her being an Omega? Indeed, as an Alpha, I also find her attractive. But do you not know that I am a different kind of man? Even without an Omega, I can control myself. She’s not everything to me.”
“One must be credible to believe.”
“Isn’t it peculiar Your Majesty? Even after killing the previous Saintess, you didn’t bat an eye, yet you are so obsessed with this one?”
At Roan’s direct questions, Rhetrik, for the first time, kept his mouth shut. Not only that, he was the first to avert his eyes.
Looking at Rhetrik now gazing back at the sky, Roan smirked briefly, his eyes soon becoming icy cold.
‘To think that the lord of the magic tower would do something as dangerous as this… Is it because of her special pheromones? How the hell did he even know about her?’
Until now, although there were countless Saintess, Lance, the lord of the magic tower, had never shown any interest. Even though previous Saintesses were also Omegas, he did not show any interest, let alone show himself.
For many years, Lance has been confined within the sky island, engrossed in his magical studies. His prime interest was magic. He was able to manage his rut periods with his own magical power, so he did not have to be subservient to an Omega.
However, it was extraordinary for him to invade the imperial palace and target the current Saintess. The fact that he dared to expose himself before the emperor was equivalent to declaring war. He seemed ready to even incite a war.
There was something special about this Omega. Something that could turn these madmen even madder.
