SANN | Chapter 4.1
by RAETime sure flies by fast. We were already at our third attempt at live streaming King-ga’s first defeat of Maze Queen. Despite some worries about the last practice mode ending inconclusively due to a hot mic incident, the progress was surprisingly good. Gureum let out a sigh of relief.
We were nearly through the third phase, and the party still had a substantial death count left. Even 1st Base 2nd Frame, who usually was not great at control, had five death counts remaining. Considering the boss’s HP in phase four, we still had a shot at defeating her.
[Party] Hong Jalla: We’re definitely going to beat this s1b.

Hong Jalla seemed to gauge the possibility too and was excited. But while chatting, he got bitten by a Viper. He was not at full HP before getting bitten, and before Gureum could even go and heal him, he was dead. The viewers mocked Hong Jalla.
– Silver Water Gold Water: It’s always the ones with lousy control who die while chatting.
– Cuckoo Ha: LOL, no time to even heal, just dies 🙁
– Not Euja but a Chair: Watch your words, folks, LOL, gonna sue you LOL.
– Eung Roo: Can’t sue over facts, can you? LOL.

King-ga had no intentions of defending Hong Jalla; instead, they joined the viewers in making fun of him.
“Yeah, cut off Hong Jalla’s fingers.”

[Party] Miss Cutie Hee: LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL
[Party] Hong Jalla: Yeah, I’ll cut off my fingers, you guys sew up this noob?
Now, Hong Jalla’s death count was also down to five. Gureum checked the remaining HP of Maze Queen. Using Chain now would end it prematurely without filling its duration and push us directly to phase four, which would be a loss. So, Gureum decided to hold off a bit longer and then use Stun closer to the end of the third phase.

[Party] hazeee: More damage this time. When HP is down to 10%, I’ll use Stun and then Chain in phase four.
[Party] 1st Base 2nd Frame: Yep, yep.
[Party] Miss Cutie Hee: Okay.
As the phases progressed, the frequency of Thorn Vine and Viper patterns increased, and all the party members were careful to clear the obstacles intermittently.

But even slashing away at them had its limits. Gureum, who had just narrowly avoided getting tied up by Thorn Vine thanks to his Invincible Skill, found his character getting entangled again. Watching this, Chaesyongsyong rushed to hazeee’s aid before his character became incapacitated and managed to cut the roots, grumbling.
[Party] Chaesyongsyong: These vines are too cheeky.
[Party] Chaesyongsyong: They just tie up anyone, huh.
[Party] Hong Jalla: That’s why I didn’t bother saving Heize-ssi LOL.
[Party] 1st Base 2nd Frame: LOL, big picture much?
[Party] Miss Cutie Hee: LOL, this is so funny.

“Because even if you save Heize, he’ll just scold you.”
King-ga stirred the pot more, and the viewers began reacting.

– Adf123: Does King-ga really date or what?
– Mamsseum: Are they really gay? LOL.
– Cockroach: Jealous of Heize, man :/.
– Forbidden Love: Gonna confess I’m also a guy and kinda jealous LOL.
– Plague Begone: This place is really full of crazy fans…
“Gosh, they’re jealous. He’s turning all our male viewers gay. What do we do now? You’re responsible, Chaesyong.”

[Party] Chaesyongsyong: Heize is the only one for me ^3^ smooch.
[Party] Miss Cutie Hee: You buy that old man charm or what? Ugh, yuck.
[Party] Hong Jalla: Smooch?????
“Smooch…?!” Gureum gasped and flinched for a moment, which nearly got him shot by a Viper, but he managed to dodge just in time. Heat flushed his face again. He swiftly rubbed his pale cheeks with the back of his hand, trying to compose himself, and checked the boss’s remaining HP. It was the perfect timing for a Stun.

[Party] hazeee: Stun coming up!!
As soon as Maze Queen was briefly immobilised, the party members pounced with their burst skills. Although the Stun soon wore off, the DPS members fought tooth and nail against Maze Queen. Soon, the screen faded to black, and we successfully transitioned to phase four. A short video played, showing an enraged Maze Queen rampaging about.

[How dare you freely walk into the King’s abode!]
The setting for phase four was the King’s abode, where Maze Queen resided. We had pushed from the garden setting of phase three to the King’s quarters. Given the party’s good condition and a bit of luck, there seemed to be a chance to defeat her live.

Phase four featured the boss with the most HP, but it was a stationary boss that did not move from its spot, which meant the field was quite cramped. As soon as the party members landed on the field, Gureum quickly typed out a chat.
[Party] hazeee: I’ll chain in 10 seconds.
[Party] hazeee: Everyone, cast your personal buffs now.

Ten seconds later, as soon as the Chain was deployed, Gureum started planning swiftly. When the boss was in a state of immobility, all patterns were nullified. Phase four was similar to phase three with lots of minor attacks, which had to be dodged as much as possible to ensure a final defeat.
After the Chain ended, Gureum decided to deploy a protective shield that would reduce the damage party members received for about 20 seconds. Once the shield was up, they would wait for a big burst skill if needed. This had not been used before, but Gureum was ready to activate Red Medic’s ultimate utility skill, ‘Illegal Dowsing’, as soon as the shield was down.

The effect of hazeee’s actions in phase four was more potent than expected. New viewers watching the proper dealing for the first time started getting excited.
– Ja-nim: WTF, this is insane; no joke, are we actually going to beat it today???
– TunaTuna: If they practised phase four properly in practice mode, they could beat it;;
– Hikku: Who can beat this party, LOL? Even if six months pass, only these guys would have defeated it LOL.

After the Chain Skill ended, Gureum checked Maze Queen’s remaining HP. It was visibly lower than during the last practice mode.
As Maze Queen woke from her incapacitated state, she started firing off patterns immediately. Gureum scanned the party members’ conditions and reminded an unconverted DPS.

[Party] hazeee: Haru-iltal-ssi, switch your attribute to water!
[Party] 1st Base 2nd Frame: Oh right, thanks!!
The most basic thing about phase four was the ‘element’. All patterns were triggered based on this element. There were two types of elements: water and fire. While the choice was free, it was better not to use the fire element because sometimes it could bestow a curse that sealed your skills.

When a rift in space-time appeared, you had to carefully watch the ground and deal damage in areas that matched your own element’s colour. Another pattern involved broken shards from a chandelier. These annoying obstacles fell from the sky throughout phase four. If you were hit by glass shards of a colour similar to your own element, you could avoid taking damage.
Lastly, there was the ‘Poison Attack’ from the Maze Queen. The Maze Queen, who was fascinated with various poisons, would throw bottles of poison she had collected. These poison bottles needed to be avoided regardless of colour. However, taking a hit from a poison bottle of the same element reduced the damage taken by 20%, while one from the opposite element inflicted 50% damage.

While there were no particularly challenging patterns, phase four was literally a battle of damage, as the boss’s HP reached hundreds of trillions. How long you could last and how strong you were mattered most among the minor patterns.
Gureum immediately set up a shield. The DPS players huddled inside the shield, receiving Gureum’s heals while they dealt damage. Everyone was quiet, seemingly hyper-focused for this first defeat.

• Ttuuri: Boss, the sound is off, is it not?
• Imkkk: Look at King-ga’s eyes, LOL, such intense focus.
• My House’s Toadstool: It feels like my monitor will break; so scary;;
• Smell of Bread Punch: Red Medic is seriously OP… should have died but did not.
Soon, the shield’s effect ended. Although everyone was quite adept at dodging according to their elements, there were still many inexperienced party members. Gureum focused on healing those who seemed to be lagging.

Time passed, yet the party members were holding up well. Gureum checked everyone’s remaining Death Count. 1st Base 2nd Frame had used up most of their counts.
With only two Death Counts left for 1st Base 2nd Frame, Gureum checked the Maze Queen’s remaining HP. About 40% was left. It was risky. Yet, Gureum decided to hold out a bit longer to use ‘Illegal Dowsing’.

[Party] hazeee: I will use Dowsing when about 30% is left. Hang in thereㅠㅠ
[Party] Hong Jalla: I am going to die, ok.
[Party] Chaesyongsyong: Yes ^^
Illegal Dowsing, literally, involved the Red Medic doping the party members, who then, for about 30 seconds, became three times stronger. However, this skill had after-effects. After the buff time expired, the party members’ HP would continuously decrease, and their potion recovery rate would also drop. The Red Medic also could not apply any buff skills to party members for five minutes after using it. It was the last resort buff to use in pulling down the boss.

[Party] 1st Base 2nd Frame: Thanks.
Just when 1st Base 2nd Frame was nearly gone, Gureum breathed a sigh of relief, having barely saved them. There was no time to look elsewhere. Time was nearly at the 26-minute mark, spending about 10 minutes in Phase 4 alone. But that also meant the Maze Queen’s HP was decreasing steadily. It seemed about to drop below 30%.

The excited King-ga spoke up.
“Guys, watch our damage when I use Dowsing. It is going to be insane. Actually, the cooldown is three hours, so we have not even triggered it yet. This is the first time on live broadcast.”

It seemed like the right moment to trigger Dowsing. Gureum had to warn the party members in advance.
[Party] hazeee: I will use Dowsing in 20 seconds!!
[Party] hazeee: Everyone, take any more doping potions you have and load up on buffs.
[Party] Hong Jalla: I am biting my tongue right now.
[Party] Miss Cutie Hee: Going for the kill`m´.

Soon after, the Red Medic’s Dowsing was triggered. This was a skill that Gureum rarely used except during hard boss fights. The background turned a bright red as the party members’ combat power surged dramatically. The DPS players’ per-hit damage skyrocketed into the hundreds of billions. The remaining HP of the Maze Queen was quickly depleting.
“The damage is insane. We might actually beat it this time.”

The HP of Phase 4 was lower than a fingernail. Everyone quickly stopped attacking and started using buffs to increase the drop rate. It was now a confirmed defeat. Gureum’s heart pounded. King-ga spoke excitedly.

“Everyone, pray that the Maze Queen drops the boss gear.”
The hard bosses in Cloud Online dropped boss gear at a horribly low rate. In the case of the Maze Queen, an item called ‘Bloody Ruby Earring’ dropped at a 0.02% chance, which was nearly impossible. Thanks to this, hard boss gears, which were not enchanted with potential or additional options, often sold for high prices.

Assuming it was unlikely to drop, Hong Jalla mocked King-ga.
[Party] Hong Jalla: Think it will happen? Lol

Then everyone stopped attacking, and a final blow was delivered, defeating the Maze Queen outright.
“Hey!”

King-ga burst out angrily. A gold-plated achievement notification for the first defeat appeared as the Maze Queen spit out items into the air. One thing, particularly shining bright red, fell to the ground.
Everyone clamped their mouths shut upon verifying what it was.

“……uh….”
[Party] Hong Jalla: …did that really just happen?
[Party] 1st Base 2nd Frame: Am I seeing this right… is that the Ruby Earrings…?
[Party] Chaesyongsyong: Oh.
[Party] Miss Cutie Hee: Damn… Hong Jalla did something…ㄴㅇㅁㅇㄱ

It was indeed the Maze Queen’s Bloody Ruby Earrings. They had beaten the 0.02% drop rate.
Regaining his senses, King-ga let out a cheer, screaming at the top of his lungs.

“Woaaaaah! Crazy, we got the Ruby Earrings! Hey, guys! Ruby Earring—!”
In his excitement, King-ga threw his headset, which hit the wall and fell, the cat ears attached to it tragically smashed. It seemed to have served its purpose. He sat down in his chair, energetically raising his arms and cheering wildly. Naturally, the balance shifted backwards.

That was when it happened. King-ga and his chair toppled backwards. Thud! A loud noise rang out, briefly shaking the monitor. Despite the impactful sound, King-ga quickly got back up and screamed again.
